About Kecia Mays

I have lived in the Arlington ISD for 17 years with my wonderful, supportive husband and three active boys.  As a family, we are very involved in supporting our three boys in extracurricular activities where we have spent time and money at just about every baseball/football field, basketball court and stage in the Arlington and surrounding areas.  In addition to sports, we are very invovled with the education of our boys and ensuring they have options when it comes to their future.

I graduated with a BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University and have been employed as an auditor with the Texas State Comptroller’s Office for over 26 years.  As an auditor for the Comptroller, I conduct routine audits of a diverse tax base.  I have had  opportunities to be a Presenter at tax seminar’s for CPA’s and have presented a variety of training classes. 

During my 17 years in the district, I have served on a variety of district committeesCitizens Bond Oversight Committee where I served as Chair for 2 years.  This committee was responsible for providing recommendations relating to the expenditure of the $197.5M bond proceeds approved by the voters in 2009. Bond Advisory Committee where I served as Co-Chair of the Technology Subcommittee. Financial Futures Committee for 4 terms - current. Citizens Advisory Committee where I served as Chair of the Revenue Subcommittee. District Level Instructional Decision-Making Committee where I represent the Junior High Level – 2011 to present. AISD Insiders – Member of 2011-2012 class. “Citizens for Arlington” PAC - 2009 Capital Needs Steering Committee - 2013-2014. Instructional Model Committee - 2012-2014. Family Engagement Committee - 2013 - 2014. I have served as an Arlington ISD Board of Trustee from 2014 to present.

I have served on several leadership levels of PTA: Texas PTA Area 18, Field Service Representative for Arlington, Grand Prairie, Kennedale and Lancaster. Arlington Council of PTAs where I have served as Secretary, Treasurer, Budget & Finance and Program Chair. Local School PTAs where I have served as President, Vice President and Treasurer along with serving as chair for a variety of committees. I currently serve as a Field Service Representative for Texas PTA. I have been awarded the Texas PTA Lifetime Member  and the Extended Service Award.

I have also been honored with the “Employee Spotlight” for the State Comptroller’s Audit Division which recognizes employees that have dedicated time and skills to their community and colleagues.

 I served on the Texas Comptroller’s steering committee which acts as a liaison between Management and Employees in addition to serving as Chair for our State Employee Charitable Campaign with the United Way.

 

Since being elected to Arlington ISD School Board in 2014, it has been an honor to serve our school district of over 63,000 students and 8,000 employees.   It is with great humility and excitement to run for re-election to continue to serve the amazing students and awesome staff of Arlington ISD.  Please visit www.aisd.net to see the wonderful things that are happening in Arlington ISD.
